Meet Genna...
- Could you describe your job in 5 words or less?
"One-crazy-rollercoaster!"
- What led you to joining Team TRIA?
"I was in another recruitment role and felt like I’d reached a dead end in my career. I started looking for an easy, part time job because I wasn’t sure what a ‘career’ looked like as a new mum on part time hours. I was contacted on LinkedIn by a rec-to-rec, and they put me forward for TRIA. I honestly thought they were crazy; I had no tech experience whatsoever and the job felt way too senior for me.
I did a Teams call with David and remember him telling me that “part time mums were the most hard working because you don’t just leave your children with anyone and go to work to do nothing.” And that really stuck with me. I was invited to second interview at TRIA Towers and absolutely loved everything about TRIA – everyone was genuinely lovely and believed in me. I was sold."
- A recruitment delivery consultant seems like a busy role. What does your working week look like?
"It’s busy!
My days start early with dropping my little boy off to childcare and then it’s non-stop from there onwards. I must make sure I am mega organised to achieve everything I want to between Monday and Wednesday. This means that I start every day with a list of people to contact, catch up with, and chase. I am persistent in my chasing as I need to maximise my three days. It’s often 5.30pm Wednesday in no time, and usually, I have achieved everything I set out to that week and have handed over any important information to my manager Katie. I would be lying if I said my working week finished then, but I often utilise nap time on a Thursday and Friday to check emails and make sure the candidates and clients are happy and well informed."
- What are your favourite and least favourite parts of your job?
"So cheesy but I absolutely love it when you find someone who is perfect for the role you are recruiting for, you strike up a brilliant rapport, and then, they get offered! It feels like such a huge achievement. Least favourite part is when things are out of your control. Given that I am a bit of a control freak and a perfectionist, this is always tough for me to navigate."
- Do you have a career highlight so far?
"Winning ‘newcomer of the year’ – I genuinely never win anything and it meant so much that my hard work was being recognised. Also, passing probation! My probation review was a real highlight for me.

- Do you have a goal you want to achieve at TRIA?
"Ultimately, I want to be an Account Manager. I put a lot into my relationships with people, and this is no different with our clients. I can’t wait to manage a few clients of my own!"
- And finally; what advice would you give to someone looking to start in tech recruitment?
"Don’t be put off by the title! It’s all about learning from those around you – your colleagues and the candidates. Have confidence to ask the questions if you don’t understand – especially when you are on the phone to candidates, they are the experts in their field, after all."
