Earth Month 2023

Date Posted: Sunday, 18th June 2023

On Saturday we moved into April. And whilst it was a great time to be online and see the internet scattered with a lot online practical jokes, a big thing to remember is that April is also Earth Month. Earth month is a time for us to reflect on the impact we are making on our planet, and to then take conscious steps to reduce our carbon footprint. Every company has a carbon footprint. And with more and more companies recognising the importance of adopting sustainable practices, and with race to net zero at the forefront of many organisations minds, it’s now an expectation to see companies taking steps towards reducing their impact on the environment.

How are TRIA contributing to Earth Month?

At TRIA, we are serious about sustainability. We recognise the need that businesses need to take responsibility for the lasting effects they are having on the environment and take steps that facilitate meaningful change.  And to make sure we are helping real-world change, we decided we needed to contribute to a cause that makes real-world impact. To demonstrate this, Team TRIA have partnered with Trees for the Future (TREES). And this year TREES are bringing awareness to their cause with their campaign; Change is Growing #BreakTheCycle.   Learn more on our partnership with TREES here. TREES are a fantastic organisation who truly make a difference with the work they do. And by contributing to their initiative, companies can help break the cycle of hunger, poverty, and environmental destruction. With support, TREES restores landscapes in developing communities. TREES work hard to train farmers in agroforestry, teaching them to grow their own sustainable farming systems called Forest Gardens. The average one-acre Forest Garden is home to more than 4,000 trees and sequesters about 156 metric tons of carbon over 20 years. Forest Gardens restore the soil and natural biodiversity of the land while providing food and income opportunities to the farming family.
“It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the state of our planet and the need for urgent action,” says Trees for the Future Director of Programs Brandy Lellou. “But the good news is that Trees for the Future has a solution to some of our most pressing challenges and we have brand partners like TRIA dedicated to making lasting change possible.”
TRIA have pledged to plant 4000 trees each year to offset our carbon emissions. In addition to planting trees, our internal CSR team regularly meet to ensure we are taking steps to reduce our energy consumption and promote sustainable practices within our own office environment. Such as swapping plastic whenever possible, promoting recycling and implementing a cycle to work scheme for our team.
“Support from companies like TRIA is crucial in environmental restoration and protection,” says Trees for the Future CEO Tim McLellan. “Thanks to our brand partners, we’re reaching more farmers and planting more trees this year than ever before.”
With support from business partners, as well as individual donors and institutional funders, to date Trees for the Future has planted more than 300 million trees around the globe over the past 30 years. Trees are planted at different times throughout the year based on regional seasons and planting schedules. Visit trees.org to learn more.   If each of us adopted an approach that looked at how we can work towards minimising our own output, we would all be working towards solving our global problem. There are a variety of ways we can all contribute, head here for some inspiration of what you could be adopting this month that becomes an everyday practice. Together, we can make a difference and create a more sustainable future for ourselves and for future generations. Let’s make this Earth Month a time for action and change.
