Data Engineering Tech Lead

London | Hybrid (2 Days) | Up to £100,000 + Bonus + Excellent Benefits

We’re excited to be working exclusively with a leading international retailer, a group that is investing heavily in its data platform and looking for a Data Engineering Tech Lead to help shape the next stage of its Enterprise Data Platform.

This is a genuinely hands-on technical leadership role. You’ll sit within a small data engineering squad, leading the technical direction while still getting stuck into the engineering yourself.

What you’ll be doing

• Lead the technical direction of the Data Engineering squad and help define engineering standards and best practices
• Design and build scalable data pipelines using Python, SQL and Snowflake
• Work closely with Architecture and Engineering to solution complex data problems
• Help evolve the wider Enterprise Data Platform, including data modelling, integrations, performance and reliability
• Work with cloud technologies (AWS) to move and process data into Snowflake. Don’t worry if you come from a different cloud platform!
• Mentor and support other data engineers, helping raise engineering standards across the team
• Have a genuine say in how the platform evolves rather than simply delivering against a predefined technical spec.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who is still very hands-on but has started to take on more technical leadership and solution design responsibility.

You’ll ideally have:

• Strong commercial experience with Python & Snowflake
• Experience mentoring or technically leading other engineers
• Experience with dbt, Airflow or similar data engineering tooling
• A good understanding of data modelling and modern data platform architecture
• Experience working with AWS (ideally) or another major cloud platform
• The ability to take a business problem and turn it into a sensible technical solution
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
